Whilst training to be a prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher, I was asked by an accupuncturist friend of mine if I knew anything about fertility yoga, and if it was something I would consider looking in to. She knew of the benefits of fertility yoga and felt that a yoga class specifically aimed at ladies going through IVF or experiencing difficulties conceiving would help to reduce stress levels and hopefully improve their chances of conception. I was aware that there are asanas/postures known to be beneficial for fertility but I didn't know about fertility yoga as a class on its own. After I completed my training I did some research and found a course in London on fertility yoga run by the Birthlight Foundation http://www.birthlight.com/page/fertility-yoga.aspx
The course was taught by Francoise Barbira Freedman who is the founder and director of Birthlight. Her wealth of knowledge and vast experience of teaching women made it a fascinating learning experience.
I followed that up with a fertility yoga instructor training course with Sue Dumais, a fertility yoga specialist who developed the first Yoga for Fertility Instructor Training course. http://www.familypassages.ca/index.asp. Sue has a gentle yet powerful way of helping others see their true potential and has helped many clients transform their lives.
I feel honoured to have studied with these wonderful, passionate women. They've given me so much encouragement and I feel very privileged and happy to be passing on their knowledge in my classes.
I continue with my study on the subject of fertility yoga, and I've found that my classes are something of a two way process - I learn more and more at every class from every lady I teach.
